Daios Cove Review By Frances Geoghegan

Greece is the word, especially if you are looking for the perfect Wellness break without compromising on your precious family holiday time together.

Taking a trip to Daios Cove is a real eye-opener, and has to be frankly seen to be believed - I made a quick visit there recently and all my pre-conceived ideas were brought into line. It’s very difficult for any luxury resort to marry the needs of family travel with a deep and immersive wellness. Many try but fail, especially with peak season stays, however Daios Cove triumphs, and you can go as deep as you wish or not at all - you make the decision. It’s not going to be because Daios Cove are not making all the services available, and that really is the point of difference for this under-the-radar beauty.

Location and how easy it is to get there and the basics

It’s an easy 1 hour transfer from Crete’s main airport at Heraklion, and is crafted into the cliff side with knock out sea-views over Vathi Bay from every room in the resort. Being family-friendly, you can expect this ravishing resort to have everything on tap and to tick all the boxes – six restaurants from simple, cool sexy beach to high quality dining - tick. Great facilities for the younger ones - tick, with a Children’s Club and child-minding on tap - tick.  A lovely beach location to swim and enjoy the sea breeze – tick tick tick.

What about the Wellness

The foundation of the Wellness modules was the joint creation of the owner of Daios Cove, Dimitris Daios, and the founder and CEO of GOCO hospitality, Ingo Schweder. Schweder’s expertise is imbedded in the Wellness Industry where he is seen as a real heavyweight. His life changed after a cancer diagnosis, and like many his journey back to good health moulded his views on modern wellness being a mixture of ancient healing and modern diagnostics. He brought to Daios Cove a blueprint for modern day wellness.

There is a permanent Doctor on site, the very affable and understated, yet highly knowledgeable Dr Masood. After a consultation, Dr Masood will tailor a bespoke programme for your needs. As I have had a few weeks of not feeling great, he immediately suggested that a few sessions in the hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber would help give me a boost, and it certainly did the job. There is also a great nutritionist George, who will give you helpful tips on how to navigate the sumptuous restaurants - each restaurant has a healthy eating option and they intend to further develop their healthy food concept. There is a cryotherapy chamber, which I love and which is brilliant for those recovering from injuries, tailored vitamin infusions, a calming water circuit and a great Spa.

I started my day with the God-like creature Freedom, who did a deep stretch combining the best of Pilates, Yoga and aerial Yoga - an instant morning booster. Massages with Varvara and Eleftheria are also not to be missed; they know their art and they are as good as anyone you would get in a top Destination Spa.  There is sound healing, and colonics performed under the Doctor’s supervision but it is the staff who makes Daios Cove soar above its competitors - they are exceptional, and are delighted to help you on your journey to good health. There are so many layers to what they offer, so book a proper 7-night stay – your body and mind will certainly thank you for it
