Interconnectedness of the Mind, Heart and Breath

Anandi - The Sleep Guru

In her latest blog post, Anandi, the Sleep Guru teaches us that breath is the best weapon against insomnia.

Bad night? We all have them now and then, some of us more than others though, right? Very frustrating when you roll over and your better half is sleeping like a baby!!! So what happens when you are tossing and turning, getting more and more agitated and upset that sleep is eluding you and tomorrow you have an important day?

Well the process starts with you getting agitated. As that happens your breath will be getting shorter and shorter, during which time your chance of sleeping diminishes. You see, your mind is intimately linked with the breath, so as your mind starts racing the breath becomes restricted, you may even feel like you simply can’t breath. That is because everything tightens up and your breathing mechanism gets restricted. Now as that goes on, something else is happening…….yes, your heart starts pounding – fast. If you roll over on your side, I suspect all you can hear is the rather irritating beating inside your ear? It’s not usually there I hear you say? How come you did not notice that before?

The mind, breath and heart are completely interrelated, they work in synchronicity with each other, it’s that simple. Once you realise that if you work with your breath, everything else follows. Slow the breath, slow the mind and reduce the heart rate!

Now you know this, perhaps, you can appreciate the importance of working with the breath and why I put so much weight on learning how to breathe. I have specific techniques I have developed for people suffering from the vicious cycle of sleep deprivation and insomnia. To learn these techniques you need to start from the beginning and you can do that from my DVD which offers some basic breathing techniques.

Once you start to be more conscious of the breath, you will be able to move on to the  specific breathing techniques I teach on my retreats or consultations. Being a holistic cure, you will need time, but if you want to cure your insomnia and handle the odd bad night, you must learn how to work with your breath and invest a little time!

Resist that temptation to get sleeping pills, 95% of the time it’s down to the breath, it really is!

Breathe with me!

Love,

Anandi
